About the Creator - Tyler Vandermeer

Tyler Vandermeer is entering his tenth year as a music educator and is the Director of Bands at Monarch High School in Louisville, CO. Prior to teaching at Monarch, Mr. Vandermeer was the Director of Instrumental Music at Columbine High School from 2020-2025 and the Assistant Director of Instrumental Music at Pine Creek High School from 2017-2020. He has also served previously on the Colorado Bandmasters Association board as the Metro Representative in 2024, and is the current Northern Area Representative. Mr. Vandermeer earned his Bachelors of Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 2017 and is currently pursuing his Masters degree in Music Education from the American Band College of Central Washington University.

In the five years that he taught at Columbine, the program exhibited significant growth and achievement. Under Mr. Vandermeer’s direction, the Columbine Marching Rebels qualified for the CBA State Marching Band Championships every year and finished as semi-finalists in 2023 and 2024. At festivals, the Bands, Orchestras and Jazz Band all earned consistent excellent and superior ratings. Both the Chamber Orchestra and Wind ensemble were selected to perform at their respective state festivals (CBA and CO-ASTA) consistently. The Chamber Orchestra also made school history in 2022 by becoming one of the first of two programs to perform at a CMEA convention. In 2022, Mr. Vandermeer was presented with the Phi Beta Mu Kappa Chapter “Outstanding Young Bandmaster” award and in 2024, was the Columbine High School Teacher of the Year. In his first year at Monarch (2025), the program continued it's tradition of excellence, finishing 3rd place in 4A at the CBA state Championships. Every single concert and jazz band ensemble received all superior ratings at festivals.

Mr. Vandermeer is extremely thankful to be in such a supportive music community at Monarch. He continues to foster the tradition of excellence and hopes to expand the band program while seeking new and challenging opportunities for growth. In his free time, he enjoys drinking coffee, performing with the Broncos Stampede Drumline, spending quality time with friends, and of course, his three-legged cat, Maizie.
