IN THIS LESSON:

  • Learn how to form the Embouchure on the Oboe Reed

After watching the instructional video above, be sure to practice forming your embouchure. Follow these steps to remind yourself the proper formation of Oboe embouchure.

Step 1: Place the center heart of reed on bottom lip - remember to keep the reed anchored to the bottom lip (see photo).

Step 2: Roll your top and bottom lips in to cover the teeth. This provides a cushion for the reed (see photo).

Step 3: Take a deep breath, keeping the reed anchored to the bottom lip.

Step 4: Cushion the reed again, and bring your corners forward (see photo).

Step 5: Touch the tip of the tongue to the tip of the reed and add air pressure before starting the sound.

Step 6: Finally, pull back your tongue to release the pressurized air.

DO NOT pull back the corners into a “smile” or “frown” (see photo).
