IN THIS LESSON:
Learn how to use the fingering chart and what to tackle next!
Now that you have learned enough for two scales, it is time to determine what to do next!
Below is the full range of the Oboe and some recommended notes for you to learn next on your journey, working up to a chromatic scale. There are still a few more lessons after this, so be sure to hit continue and come back to this page if you want to drill new notes.

Recommended order of next notes to learn:
Both high and low A-flat
Both low and middle range C#
Both low and middle range LEFT E-flat
Then add your A-flat Major Scale
F# above the staff (register key F#)
Then add your G Major Scale
After that, it is time for your first Chromatic Scale (Low C - Middle Range C)
Finish learning the low register with low B-natural and low B-flat.
After those two notes, add on the B-flat Major, E-flat Major, D-flat Major and D Major scales!
That should be enough to keep you busy for a while! There of course is still more to learn, so finish checking off every note and start working up toward two octave major scales (start with common keys first), then work up to a two octave chromatic scale, and then finally, a FULL RANGE chromatic scale!
After that, focus on tackling all 12 Major Scales, first in one octave, then in two octaves. Start slow and focus on getting a little bit better each day, and before you know it, you’ll be off to the races.
Private Lessons
Aspiring Oboe players should seriously consider private lessons.
By now, you should know that the Oboe is challenging and takes time, dedication, and commitment to the craft. Getting a private instructor is a small investment that will pay off BIG TIME in your playing. I would even consider it a mandatory investment if you want to make the most out of your Oboe experience.
From handmade professional grade reeds, to tools, tips, and tricks, a private Oboe teacher will take your playing to the next level!
