IN THIS LESSON:
Learn how to use the thumb register key
Learn two notes that use this key (all fingering charts by Fox Products)
E and F (fourth space E and top line F, otherwise known as E5 and F5
Learn your F Major Scale
The next two notes are played by pressing the thumb-octave key. First let’s learn what that is.
To start, find the key on the back of your oboe, just above where your thumb normally rests.
To press this key, use a similar slide and roll motion to bring the thumb up to the register key.
Once you understand the motion, continue on to learn two new notes that incorporate this technique.

Before going on, practice this exercise at least 3 times to get comfortable with these new notes!
Going between Half-Hole D and E natural can be a challenge at first - take it slow and focus on the slide + roll motion in your first finger and thumb.
F-Major Scale
Now that you have learned enough notes, it is time for our second Major Scale! Practice this slowly to get used to moving around the Oboe.
